Position Title Plant Operator/Grano Worker (Town)

Status/Hours Full-time/76 hours per fortnight (9-day fortnight)

Position Objective

The position will assist with the construction and maintenance of Council’s roads, drainage and other infrastructure to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Operate on one or more of the following equipment and perform relevant tasks as directed by the Leading Hand / Town Foreman / Manager of Works and Services from time to time
General Plant and Machinery
  • Operate Shire’s loader, roller, backhoe and similar plant in the maintenance, repairs and construction of road works, drainage projects and other Shire related activities
Grano/ Concrete Work
  • Set up and lay concrete to appropriate standards
  • Laying and installing of pipes, footpaths and pads
General Maintenance Truck

 

  • Replacement/repair of street signs and other road furniture
  • Erection and replacement of guide posts
  • Footpath and verge maintenance as required
  • Emergency duties

·         Town maintenance

Minor Plant/Equipment

 

·         Plate compactors, upright rammers, cement mixers

·         Routine checks as per operating manual

  • Provide manual assistance to road and drainage construction/maintenance projects when required.
Other
  • Work under limited supervision either individually or in a team environment.
  • Immediate reporting of plant defects, loss or damage to tools equipment or vehicles.
  • Responsible for materials, tools equipment, vehicles and plant in the employees use.
  • Responsible for the quality and standard of work performed.
  • Acts to develop and maintain an awareness of Occupational Safety and Health responsibilities relevant to a staff member’s duty of care.
  • Report any risk, accident or incident promptly to your Supervisor.

·         Assist other members of the workforce in carrying out their duties when directed by the Town Supervisor and/or Leading Hand.

·         Undertake training when necessary and stipulated by the Town Supervisor/Manager of Works and Services.

·         Assist with digging of graves when necessary

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Occupational Safety & Health including risk management and must take all reasonable care in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self and others.

 Position Requirements

Skills Knowledge Experience/Qualifications
Sound operator skill level including safe operating and machine maintenance procedures. Knowledge of the use of a wide range of power and hand tools ie plate compactor, chain saw etc. Relevant experience with the operation of tip trucks including driving and tipping both stationary and moving.
Sound skills to operate general plant and machinery, including trucks. Sound knowledge of safe operation procedures and user maintenance of tools and equipment. Safe operation and user maintenance of mechanical plant.
Sound literacy skills. Basic understanding of quality control techniques Experience in the use of power and hand tools
Good communication skills. Knowledge of road construction/maintenance and reinstatement practices. Relevant experience in road and drainage construction/maintenance
  Knowledge of safe work practices related to construction and maintenance projects. Basic Traffic Control Certificate (training can be provided)
  Knowledge of road and drainage construction and maintenance practices. Basic operation of loaders and backhoes would be a benefit
  Reading plans and setting out jobs Current “HR” Class Driver’s Licence (minimum)
    First Aid Certificate (desirable)
    Grano work experience
